And We’re Back.

Not that “we” ever really went anywhere; the page simply hasn’t been touched in almost three years.  I’m not what you would call a regular bloggie.

However, I might just take it up on a more normal basis given that:

1. GoDaddy has been busting my chops to update WordPress,
2. I had to update it sans assistance from GoDaddy, since for some reason their application servicing doesn’t acknowledge that my hosting plan was fully compatible with the software, and
3. I’ve been getting a lot of people suggesting to me that I should start a blog as of late, so that the ramblings I place on Facebook can get a little more play.  That, and get them off people’s Facebook feeds.

All these factors in mind, might as well give it a shot.  Besides, now I’ve got this bastard tied directly to my phone- talking dirty and spreading it around the web is now at my side at all times.

It will likely look pretty sparse with respect to the theme for a while, since I’ve forgotten all I ever knew about .css and won’t have time to go fetching for something more fetching within the next few weeks. If I happen to find a couple of moments, maybe it’ll get nice and shiny, but no promises.

Microprose Fleet Defender

Just playing around with this today in Dosbox.  Figured I’d share the couple settings I’ve found necessary to turn on digitized speech in this, which should work in any of the other Microprose sims of the early 90′s (F-15 Strike Eagle II and III, F-117, etc).

Dosbox config changes:

[render]
aspect=true
scaler=normal3x

(makes for nice size action on a 15.4″ widescreen laptop, YMMV)

[cpu]
cycles=12500

[gus]
gus=false

Install Fleet Defender in Dosbox, and use the following settings in the Reconfigure Hardware Options menu:

Music & Sound Effects Device:

SoundBlaster  Pro (later)
Music Card Address: Address 220

Digitized Speech Card Selection:

SoundBlaster Pro (later)
Speech Address: Address 220
Speech IRQ:  IRQ 7
Speech DRQ: DRQ 1

Save settings, exit, type F14, “AND KILL MIGS

The SoundBlaster settings should be rudimentary for anyone that lived back in the 90′s and played these titles the first time around, but much that was once known has been forgotten, legend has become myth, and so on and so forth.
